Samilia Allotey

Samilia Allotey teaches English and French in Tokyo. Language and culture have always fascinated her, especially the way they shape how people communicate and build connections across borders.

She joined GSU-Japan wanting to meet other Ghanaians and to give something back to the Ghanaian community in Japan. Since then she has taken on whatever is needed: hosting events as MC, including the 10th Anniversary Opening and GRAIN Launch, and working behind the scenes on planning, logistics and coordination.

At the 10th Anniversary Symposium she took the stage in another role, as a researcher. Her presentation looked at bridging workplace cultures and at how Africans and Japanese people work together in Japan.

Samilia plans to keep developing her work in language, culture, education and intercultural communication through research and community engagement, building bridges between Japan, Ghana and the wider international community.
